Stopping to smell the roses

I am not very good at gardening, but years ago I planted some shrub roses that are pictured below.  That reminded me that Stop and Smell the Roses was the eighth studio album by Ringo Starr, released in 1981.  Incidentally, shrub roses don’t give off any smell at all, and Ringo always struck me as sorta similar.  Some things are less important than others.

  1. I would like to thank you, Judge.

On days like today, when the smallest of things irk me, or days where other small things make me smile, I often think of your blog and particular your frequent line, “Some things are more important than others.” And ain’t that the truth. Why bother with the small things when so much more is actually worth the time and effort?

Some things truly are more important than others.

  2. Jill,

    Please excuse the late reply.

Thanks for the tip. Honestly, I have had the best success just leaving them alone. I made sure to plant them in good soil, and I hit them with Miracle Grow once in a while. If the nasty little bugs and rust start showing up, I treat them with Rose Pride. But, mostly I find that benign neglect works the best.

    All the best.
